Thriftscape is a directory site. We don't sell anything directly, we don't run user accounts, and we don't ask you to hand over personal information to browse the site. Here's what we actually do, laid out plainly.
What we track
We use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand basic site traffic: things like which pages get visited, roughly where visitors are located at a country or city level, and which browser or device was used. This is standard, aggregated web analytics. It helps us know which directories and articles are actually useful, so we can spend our time adding more of what works.
This tracking uses cookies and similar technologies in your browser. You can block or clear these at any time through your browser settings, and the site will continue to work normally without them.
Affiliate links and commissions
Many of the links on Thriftscape, including links to secondhand shops, gear retailers, and other partners, are affiliate links. If you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from that seller. This comes at no extra cost to you, the price you pay is the same either way. It's how we keep Thriftscape free to use without needing to charge visitors or run intrusive ads.
We only link to sellers and organizations we believe are genuinely worth featuring. Whether a link is an affiliate link has no bearing on whether we think it belongs in our directory.
What we don't collect
Beyond the standard analytics described above, we don't collect personal information about you directly. We don't have a login system, we don't store payment details (purchases happen entirely on the retailer's own site, not ours), and we don't build a profile tied to your name or email address.
If you email us with a question, we'll have your email address and whatever you choose to share in that message, and nothing more. We use that only to respond to you.
Third-party sites
When you click through to a retailer, shop, or organization listed on Thriftscape, you leave our site and their own privacy policy applies. We'd encourage you to take a look at it before sharing any personal or payment information with them.
Changes to this policy
If how we handle analytics or affiliate relationships changes in a meaningful way, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
